The Department of Microbiology is committed to imparting knowledge of microorganisms, infection control and laboratory diagnostics essential for patient safety and disease prevention.
To develop microbiological understanding and infection control practices among medical students.
- Understand microorganisms and disease transmission
- Interpret microbiological laboratory investigations
- Promote infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship
- Develop laboratory diagnostic skills
- Ensure biosafety and quality control
Theory: General and Systemic Microbiology, Parasitology, Mycology and Virology
Practical: Culture techniques, staining methods, antimicrobial sensitivity testing and laboratory demonstrations
- Bacteriology, serology and culture laboratories
- Autoclaves, incubators and microscopes
- Infection control and biosafety facilities
- Teaching models and audiovisual aids
Horizontal and vertical integration with clinical departments is practiced as per CBME guidelines.
Microbiology plays a crucial role in diagnosis, infection control and antimicrobial stewardship.
