About GMERS Medical College, Navsari

GMERS Medical College, Navsari is an institution managed by the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), an undertaking of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, and is affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.

The college is well connected to major transport hubs, with Surat Airport approximately 50 km, Navsari GSRTC Bus Port about 15 km, and Navsari Railway Station around 10 km from the campus. The campus comprises the medical college building, teaching hospital, and residential facilities for doctors, nursing staff, and students.

Spread over a lush green campus of 30 acres, the institute houses a teaching hospital, auditorium, doctors’ quarters, nursing staff quarters, resident doctors’ quarters, boys’ and girls’ hostels, playground, and other essential support facilities. Separate hostel accommodation with dining facilities is available for both boys and girls.

The campus maintains a ragging-free environment and strictly adheres to the Prevention of Ragging Regulations, 2009. Ragging is treated as a serious offence and is completely prohibited.

GMERS Medical College, Navsari is attached to GMERS Hospital, Navsari (formerly MGG General Hospital, Navsari), a multi-specialty state government hospital functioning since 1964, which has been upgraded as the designated teaching hospital for the medical college.

The first batch of 100 MBBS students was admitted in the academic year 2022–23. The MBBS programme has a total duration of 5½ years, comprising 4½ years of academic training followed by 1 year of Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship.

Course Structure as per NMC CBME Curriculum

  • First MBBS (12 months): Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Community Medicine, including a 2-week Foundation Course.
  • Second MBBS (12 months): Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • Third MBBS – Total Duration 30 months (Part-1: 12 months & Part-2: 18 months):General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Dermatology & Venereology, Pulmonary Medicine, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Radiology, and Dentistry, along with 2 months of elective postings. 

Teaching and assessment are conducted in accordance with the National Medical Commission Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, emphasizing clinical competence, integrated learning, AETCOM modules, early clinical exposure, and skill-based training.

The college is supported by an adequate number of qualified and experienced faculty members. Teaching is imparted through theory lectures, interactive practical sessions, simulation-based training, bedside clinical demonstrations, and integrated teaching to ensure comprehensive medical education.

The Central Library houses an extensive collection of standard and recent medical textbooks, national and international journals, e-resources, and reference materials to support academic learning and research activities.
